What we were working with
A steep view lot where the usable area was a narrow strip, and the existing planting had grown tall enough to cut the ocean out of the view from the seating area.
What we built
We terraced the slope into two levels with stone-faced walls, set a porcelain paver terrace on the upper level, and capped every plant in the view corridor at a height chosen from a seated sightline. Lighting was zoned so the terrace is usable after sunset without washing out the view.
How it turned out
Twice the usable outdoor space, with the view protected by design rather than by pruning.
