Pedestrian areas and driveways are not built the same way. Driveway sections get deeper base and heavier compaction, and every field gets a proper edge restraint so the perimeter does not creep outward over time.

Paver size, color blend and laying pattern change how large a space reads. We mock up the layout during design so you are choosing with your eyes, not from a catalog thumbnail.

Paver options we install

The installation process
Excavate to design depth, compact Class II base in lifts, screed a consistent bedding sand layer, lay and wet-saw cut the field, install edge restraint, compact the surface, then sweep in polymeric sand. Skipping any of those is why so many paver patios go wavy.

Common questions
- How long do pavers last in San Diego?
- Thirty years and up when the base is right. The paver itself almost never fails — settling and waviness trace back to inadequate base compaction or missing drainage.
- Pavers or stamped concrete?
- Pavers cost more up front, but they flex with soil movement instead of cracking, and a settled area can be lifted and reset. On expansive clay, that difference matters a great deal.
- Do pavers get weeds between them?
- Polymeric sand joints and a compacted base make it uncommon. What weeds do appear are surface-seeded and pull out easily, unlike weeds rooted through a cracked slab.
- How much does paver installation cost in San Diego?
- As a planning range, $18–$34 per square foot installed, depending on the paver, base depth and how hard the site is to reach. Driveways sit at the higher end because the base section is deeper.
- Can you install pavers over an existing concrete slab?
- Sometimes. If the slab is sound and drains correctly, an overlay paver can work. If it is cracked or holding water, removing it is the honest answer.
- Do you install permeable pavers?
- Yes. Permeable systems are a good fit where a lot has limited drainage discharge options or where a project needs to reduce runoff.
