Concrete cracks — the job is controlling where. Compacted subgrade, correct reinforcement and thoughtfully placed control joints keep cracking in the joints instead of across the middle of your patio.
Finish choices that age well
Heavy stamped patterns can date quickly. We tend toward finishes and joint layouts that still read clean in ten years, and we seal where the finish needs it.

Stamped, stained and decorative finishes
Stamped patterns, integral color, acid stain, exposed aggregate, salt finish, broom finish and sawcut modern panels. Decorative concrete lives or dies on jointing layout and color consistency across pours, so both are planned before the trucks arrive.

Common questions
- Why does concrete crack in San Diego?
- Most often expansive clay moving under the slab, compounded by shallow base, missing reinforcement or control joints spaced too far apart. Concrete does not fail on its own — the ground under it moves.
- What concrete finishes do you offer?
- Broom, salt finish, exposed aggregate, stamped, colored, sawcut patterns and smooth-troweled modern slabs with integral color.
- How soon can I use a new patio?
- Foot traffic after about 48 hours, furniture after a week, vehicles on a driveway after roughly 28 days at full cure.
- Do you take on concrete-only projects?
- Yes. We pour patios, driveways and walkways as standalone jobs as well as inside larger landscape builds.
- Is stamped concrete cheaper than pavers?
- Usually yes up front. The trade-off is repairability — a cracked stamped slab is hard to patch invisibly, while a settled paver field can be lifted and reset.
- Can you resurface or replace an existing driveway?
- We remove and replace failed slabs. We do not recommend thin overlays over cracked concrete, because the crack reappears through the topping.
- Are you licensed for concrete work in San Diego?
- Yes. Staples Landscaping holds California contractor license #1159370, carries liability and workers' compensation coverage, and pulls permits on any work that requires them. You can verify the license directly with the CSLB.
- Do you serve my part of San Diego County?
