Hardscape Contractors in San Diego

Hardscape is the structure of a yard — the patios, walkways, walls and steps that decide how the space is used long before the plants fill in. We design and build all of it in-house across San Diego County.

One team handles layout, grading, base prep, drainage and finish work, so the design intent survives all the way into construction.

What we build

  • Paver patios, driveways and walkways
  • Flagstone patios, stepping paths and landings
  • Poured, stamped and stained concrete
  • Segmental and structural retaining walls
  • Custom masonry: seat walls, fireplaces, BBQ islands and planters
  • Steps, stairs, raised terraces and grade transitions

Base prep is the part you never see

Most hardscape failures in San Diego trace back to base and drainage, not the surface material. We excavate to depth, compact in lifts, and plan where water goes before a single paver is set. Coastal clay, decomposed granite and inland hardpan all get handled differently.

Design and build under one contract

You are not coordinating a designer, a mason and a concrete sub. Staples Landscaping carries the project from first site walk through final walkthrough with one point of accountability.

Common questions

What is included in a hardscape project?
Everything structural and walkable: patios, driveways, walkways, steps, retaining and seat walls, masonry features and the grading and drainage that sit underneath all of it.
How long does a hardscape project take?
A single patio typically runs one to three weeks on site. A full backyard with walls, drainage, masonry and finish work usually runs four to ten weeks, depending on access and permitting.
Do you subcontract the masonry and concrete?
No. Design, hardscape, masonry, concrete, planting, irrigation and lighting are all handled by our own crews, which is why the detailing stays consistent across the whole project.
Are you licensed for hardscape work in San Diego?
Yes. Staples Landscaping holds California contractor license #1159370, carries liability and workers' compensation coverage, and pulls permits on any work that requires them. You can verify the license directly with the CSLB.
Do you serve my part of San Diego County?
We work across San Diego County — coastal, central, inland, East County and South Bay. Each area has its own soil, climate and permitting reality, which is why we publish neighborhood-level pages rather than one generic service area list.
