What we were working with
A 1930s home with real architectural character sitting behind a cracked concrete walk and a grade change handled by two awkward steps.
What we built
Everything came out and went back in brick — a running-bond patio, a proper brick staircase with mortared treads, a walkway on the same module, and a low brick retaining wall to hold the upper bed. Planting was kept simple and green so the masonry stays the star.
How it turned out
Hardscape that looks like it came with the house, on modern footings and base prep.
