- Neighborhood
- Alpine
- Category
- Planting
- Scope
- Approximately one acre of improved area
What we were working with
Beautiful hillside setting, real fire exposure, and existing planting that put fuel right against the structures.
What we built
We rezoned the landscape by distance from the house: gravel and stone closest in, low-fuel irrigated green buffer next, and native chaparral left intact well beyond that. The gathering patio sits inside the hardscape zone.
How it turned out
A property that looks like a mountain landscape and is planned around clearance rather than fighting it.

Materials & methods
- Crushed gravel firebreak
- Natural stone patio
- Low-fuel plant palette
- Irrigated green buffer
- Rotor and drip zones
