Rebuilding Hillside Entry Stairs in Cortez Hill

Concrete stair run, stone-faced cheek walls, handrail, terraced planting

Neighborhood

Category

Scope
Hillside entry staircase

What we were working with

An eighteen-riser climb from the sidewalk with uneven treads, no handrail and eroding beds on both sides.

What we built

We poured a new stair run with consistent risers and a code handrail, faced the cheek walls in stone, and terraced the planting either side so the beds stop washing onto the treads.

How it turned out

A safe, handsome climb — and a frontage that no longer sheds soil onto the sidewalk.
