- Scope
- Three terraces across a sloping grove
What we were working with
Mature avocado and citrus on a slope, with nowhere flat to sit and irrigation designed for the trees alone.
What we built
We terraced between the tree rows with dry-stacked stone, tucked a shaded dining terrace into the middle level, and split irrigation so the new understory planting is not living on the grove schedule.
How it turned out
A working grove that also functions as a garden you can spend the evening in.

Materials & methods
- Dry-stacked natural stone
- Decomposed granite paths
- Shade structure
- Mixed rotor and drip irrigation
- Understory planting
