A Rooftop Terrace Garden in East Village

Pedestal deck system, custom planters, wind screening, lighting

Neighborhood
East Village
Category
Hardscape
Scope
Rooftop terrace

What we were working with

Load limits, wind at height, and no soil — a rooftop that had been left as bare membrane since the building was finished.

What we built

We used a pedestal system so the deck sits above the membrane without penetrating it, specified lightweight soil in steel planters positioned over structural lines, and added wind screening on the exposed edge.

How it turned out

A usable downtown outdoor room that respects every load and waterproofing constraint of the building.
